Detroit, MI – Southeast Michigan is bracing for another round of bitter cold temperatures tonight and into the weekend, with subzero wind chills expected across much of the region, according to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac.
Wind chills are forecast to dip as low as -10°F to -5°F overnight Thursday into early Friday, with actual lows ranging between -2° and 9°F. The cold will persist into Friday, with highs only reaching the mid-20s under mostly clear skies.
The NWS Detroit office reports temperatures will remain well below seasonal averages through at least Monday, with light snow possible Friday night into Saturday morning, and another round of light accumulation Sunday.
Saturday’s highs are expected to range from 31° to 36°F, with overnight lows in the teens, while Sunday will stay equally cold with highs in the upper 20s to near 30°F. The agency warns that wind chills will stay in the single digits to near zero through the weekend, creating potentially dangerous conditions for anyone outdoors for extended periods.
Residents are advised to bundle up, limit outdoor exposure, and check on pets, the elderly, and those without adequate heating.
