Detroit, MI – Southeast Michigan will face wet and foggy conditions this weekend, potentially impacting post-holiday travel plans along major roadways, including I-75. Heavy rain and patchy fog are forecast starting tonight and continuing through Sunday, creating hazardous driving conditions.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Detroit, rain is likely to develop late Friday afternoon, with temperatures reaching a high of 46°F. Rainfall will intensify tonight, particularly between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. Saturday morning, accompanied by patchy fog. Drivers are advised to exercise caution and allow extra time for commutes due to reduced visibility.
Saturday will bring unseasonably warm temperatures, with highs near 56°F. However, scattered rain showers and gusts of up to 18 mph will persist throughout the day. Rain may lessen briefly Saturday evening but is expected to return Sunday, with a high of 48°F and widespread precipitation.
Looking ahead, Monday offers a brief break from wet weather with partly sunny skies and highs near 45°F. However, rain may mix with snow by Tuesday evening as temperatures drop to the mid-30s. Travelers planning early New Year’s trips should monitor conditions closely and prepare for possible slick roadways.
The NWS advises residents to remain alert for updated forecasts and to avoid unnecessary travel during peak rain and fog hours. Ensure vehicles are equipped with proper winter gear, including working wipers and defrosters, to navigate safely through the weekend.
