Detroit, MI – A round of strong thunderstorms and heavy rain is expected to impact southern Michigan late Saturday into Sunday morning, bringing the potential for damaging winds and minor flooding, according to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac.
A Marginal Risk for severe storms is in place south of I-96, including Ann Arbor, Detroit, Jackson, and Monroe, where isolated wind gusts up to 60 mph are possible this evening and again late tonight. A few storms could produce brief, isolated tornadoes near the Ohio border as a strong cold front sweeps through the region.
Forecasters also warn of widespread rain and embedded thunderstorms overnight into Sunday morning, with rainfall totals between 1 and 2 inches across most of southern Lower Michigan and locally higher amounts up to 3 inches near Saginaw and Sanford.
The NWS advises residents to stay weather-aware, secure outdoor items, and avoid flooded roadways if heavy downpours occur.
