Detroit, MI – Southeast Michigan residents should prepare for a wet and stormy stretch this week, with showers and thunderstorms expected to impact the region through Thursday before clearing skies arrive for the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, patchy dense fog was possible early Tuesday morning, followed by renewed rounds of rain and thunderstorms throughout the day. Some storms may produce wind gusts up to 40 miles per hour along with heavy downpours.

The unsettled pattern will continue into Wednesday and Thursday, with storm chances ranging from 40 to 70 percent. Highs are expected in the low-70s, with overnight lows dipping into the low-to-mid 50s. Any stronger storms could bring localized flooding and travel delays, especially near major highways such as I-75, I-94, and M-59.

Conditions should begin to improve Friday, with only a slight chance of showers during the day. By Saturday, forecasters expect dry and sunny skies with temperatures climbing into the upper 70s, providing relief for weekend outdoor plans.

The weather service advises drivers to allow extra travel time during storm periods and to be cautious in areas of reduced visibility. Residents are also encouraged to secure outdoor items that could be affected by strong winds.

This week’s forecast highlights a transition from stormy, humid conditions midweek to calmer and more seasonable weather by the weekend, marking a shift toward early fall patterns in Southeast Michigan.
