New Orleans, LA – A Wind Advisory is in effect from 4 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday as strong northwest winds move through southeast Louisiana, potentially causing power outages and hazardous driving conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in New Orleans, winds of 20 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph are expected across Orleans, Jefferson, Plaquemines, and St. Bernard Parishes, including New Orleans, Metairie, Kenner, Belle Chasse, and Chalmette.

The advisory warns that gusty winds may knock down small tree limbs and cause scattered power interruptions, especially in coastal and low-lying areas. Loose outdoor items such as decorations, trash cans, and patio furniture should be secured before early morning.

Forecasters say the strongest winds will occur from mid-morning through late afternoon, with elevated roadways—such as bridges and overpasses—posing particular risk for high-profile vehicles.

The National Weather Service advises residents to use caution when driving and remain alert for debris or downed lines throughout the day. Conditions are expected to gradually ease by Wednesday evening.
