Baton Rouge, Louisiana – Strong storms that swept through the Baton Rouge metro Thursday evening are no longer considered severe, but residents should still prepare for gusty winds and heavy downpours through the rest of the night.
According to the National Weather Service in New Orleans, the Severe Thunderstorm Warning affecting Ascension, West Baton Rouge, Iberville, and East Baton Rouge parishes officially expired at 6:30 p.m. The storm, which had briefly met severe thresholds, has weakened but remains active enough to bring potentially damaging wind gusts and localized flooding.
Localized impacts could still affect evening commutes on highways including I-10 and LA-30, especially in low-lying areas prone to poor drainage. Emergency officials are urging residents to remain weather-aware, avoid driving through flooded roadways, and report any downed trees or hazardous conditions to local law enforcement.
While the risk of hail or tornado activity has diminished, unstable atmospheric conditions may linger until early Friday morning, especially across the southern half of East Baton Rouge Parish.
Another update may follow if conditions worsen again later tonight.
