Burlington, IA – Thick fog is creating hazardous travel conditions across parts of southeast Iowa and west-central Illinois this morning.
According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, a Dense Fog Advisory is in effect until 9 a.m. Sunday for several counties, including Des Moines, Henry, and Jefferson in Iowa, as well as Hancock, Henderson, McDonough, and Warren in Illinois.
Forecasters report that visibility has dropped to a quarter-mile or less in many areas, including Burlington, Fairfield, Mount Pleasant, Carthage, Macomb, Monmouth, and Oquawka. The fog could make driving particularly dangerous during the early commute.
Officials urge motorists to slow down, use headlights, and maintain extra distance between vehicles. Sudden stops should be avoided as other drivers may have limited time to react.
Conditions are expected to gradually improve later this morning as the fog lifts with increasing daylight. Until then, residents are advised to allow for extra travel time and use caution when heading out.
