Southeast Illinois – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for parts of southeast Illinois early Friday morning as light snow continues to create slick travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, the advisory is in effect until 6 a.m. CST for Clay, Richland, Crawford, Jasper, and Lawrence counties. Additional snow accumulations of up to one inch are possible before the system exits the area.
Communities affected include Olney, Flora, Robinson, Newton, and Lawrenceville. In Clay and Richland counties, precipitation has fallen mainly as wet snow, while surrounding counties may see more typical snow accumulation. Although totals are light, cold road surfaces may allow snow to stick quickly, especially on bridges, overpasses, and untreated roads.
The primary concern is slippery road conditions during the early morning hours, which could impact commuters, school transportation, and overnight workers. Sidewalks, driveways, and stairways may also become icy, increasing the risk of slips and falls.
The advisory is expected to expire shortly after daybreak as snowfall tapers off and conditions gradually improve. However, lingering slick spots may persist even after precipitation ends, particularly in shaded or less-traveled areas.
Motorists are advised to slow down, increase following distance, and use caution when traveling early this morning. Pedestrians should watch footing when walking outdoors.

No additional advisories are in effect for later today, but travelers should continue to monitor local forecasts in case conditions change.
