Waycross, GA – A Freeze Warning has been issued for much of southeast Georgia late Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning, as temperatures are forecast to drop to near or below 31°F, according to the National Weather Service in Jacksonville, Florida.
The warning is in effect from 1 a.m. to 8 a.m. EST Wednesday, December 10, and includes Coffee, Appling, Jeff Davis, Bacon, Wayne, Atkinson, Pierce, Brantley, Clinch, Echols, and Camden Counties, along with inland areas of Glynn, Ware, and Charlton Counties.
Forecasters warn that the coldest temperatures of the week will affect low-lying and rural areas, potentially damaging tender vegetation and posing risks to outdoor pets and livestock. Residents are advised to cover sensitive plants, bring pets indoors, and check on elderly neighbors or those without proper heating.
“Take appropriate action to ensure tender vegetation and outdoor pets have adequate protection,” the Weather Service advised in its statement.
Temperatures are expected to rebound into the 50s by Wednesday afternoon, but another round of cold weather could follow later in the week.
