Charleston, S.C. – Heavy rain is drenching coastal South Carolina and southeast Georgia today, bringing the risk of flash flooding through 6 p.m. The National Weather Service warns that multiple rounds of moderate to heavy rain could drop between 1 and 2 inches across the region, with isolated totals topping 4 inches in some coastal counties.
According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, the heaviest downpours may coincide with high tide, increasing the likelihood of more severe flooding along the coast. Low-lying roads, river crossings, and intersections could become impassable, and drivers are urged to avoid flooded streets. Urban areas from Charleston to Savannah may see stranded vehicles and road closures if drainage systems are overwhelmed.
Emergency officials advise residents to limit non-essential travel, keep devices charged in case of power outages, and monitor local updates. Flood Watches remain active for much of the South Carolina Lowcountry and coastal Georgia through the early evening.
