Miami, Florida – Damaging wind gusts and intense lightning could strike interior and southeast Florida this afternoon as strong to severe thunderstorms roll through the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Miami, a Marginal Risk (level 1 of 5) is in place for isolated severe storms between 1 p.m. and 9 p.m. Friday, with the highest threat centered near and north of Alligator Alley. Areas including western Broward, inland Collier, and parts of Hendry County could see the most active weather.

These storms may produce wind gusts exceeding 40 mph, frequent lightning, and pockets of small hail. The probability of severe wind gusts ranges from 5 to 14% within the brown-shaded zone across southern Florida.

Drivers should remain cautious on stretches of I-75 and US-27, particularly during peak afternoon travel. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, charge electronic devices, and seek shelter indoors if thunder is heard.

This is a low-end risk, but conditions can rapidly evolve. More updates are expected later today if storms intensify or shift.
