Pueblo, Colorado – Snow and gusty winds are creating hazardous travel conditions across southeastern Colorado on Friday, Jan. 9, as multiple Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect from the plains to the southern mountains.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, advisories are active from 2 a.m. to 5 p.m. MST Friday, Jan. 9, for Crowley, Otero, Bent, and Prowers counties, including La Junta, Las Animas, Rocky Ford, Lamar, and Ordway. Snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches are expected, with winds gusting up to 40 mph, leading to blowing snow and slippery roads.

Additional advisories are in effect through Friday afternoon, Jan. 9, for Kiowa County, where 1 to 3 inches of snow combined with wind gusts up to 45 mph may reduce visibility to less than one mile at times.

In the Pueblo and Cañon City areas, including eastern Fremont County and Pueblo County below 6,300 feet, snow totals of 3 to 7 inches are possible through 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, with the heaviest snowfall expected across southwestern Pueblo County.

Mountain regions are also impacted. The Sangre de Cristo Mountains could receive 5 to 10 inches of additional snow through 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, while the Eastern San Juan Mountains, La Garita Mountains, Eastern Sawatch Mountains, and Wet Mountain Valley are forecast to see 2 to 6 inches, depending on elevation.

The National Weather Service warns that travel could be very difficult at times, especially during the Friday morning and evening commutes, Jan. 9. Blowing snow, slick roads, and reduced visibility are expected across both mountain passes and open plains.

Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and check road conditions by calling 511 before traveling.
