Juneau, AK – The National Weather Service in Juneau has issued a High Wind Watch for Prince of Wales Island, warning of potentially damaging winds from Tuesday evening through Wednesday morning.
Forecasters say southeast winds of 25 to 35 mph, with gusts up to 60 mph, are possible across the southern portion of the island, including the communities of Craig, Klawock, Hydaburg, Coffman Cove, and Thorne Bay.
According to the NWS, the developing system could bring dangerous crosswinds, power outages, and property damage if gusts reach full strength. Marine and coastal residents are urged to secure vessels, docks, and loose outdoor equipment ahead of the storm.
Travel may become difficult, particularly for high-profile vehicles and along exposed coastal roadways. The Weather Service notes that the watch could be upgraded to a High Wind Warning as the system strengthens Tuesday night.
Conditions are expected to ease gradually by Wednesday afternoon as winds subside.
