Corpus Christi, Texas – A strong cold front moving across South Texas tonight is expected to bring hazardous land and marine conditions, prompting a Wind Advisory for the region and a Gale Warning for Gulf waters along the Middle Texas coast.

According to the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi, a Wind Advisory will be in effect for all of South Texas from midnight tonight through 6 p.m. Monday. Sustained north winds of 20 to 30 mph are expected, with peak gusts reaching up to 45 mph. The gusty conditions may make travel difficult, particularly for high-profile vehicles, and could blow around unsecured outdoor objects.

Forecasters urge residents to secure loose items such as holiday decorations, trash cans, and patio furniture before winds increase overnight. Drivers are advised to use caution on bridges and open roadways where crosswinds may be strongest.

In addition to land-based impacts, a Gale Warning will be in effect for the Gulf waters from Baffin Bay to the Matagorda Shipping Channel, including all bays and waterways, from 3 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday. North winds of 30 to 40 knots with gusts up to 45 knots are forecast, along with seas building to 7 to 12 feet. Bay waters are expected to become rough to very rough.

The National Weather Service said these conditions will be hazardous for small craft and inexperienced mariners. Operators of smaller vessels are strongly advised to remain in port until conditions improve.

The strong winds are expected to gradually ease Monday evening as the cold front moves farther south. Cooler air will settle into the region behind the front, marking a noticeable change from recent mild conditions.

Residents and mariners are encouraged to continue monitoring official forecasts, advisories, and warnings as conditions evolve. The latest updates are available at weather.gov/crp.
