Austin, TX – Temperatures are set to climb rapidly across Central Texas, with near-triple-digit heat developing by Saturday afternoon and creating early-season heat stress risks along the I-35 corridor.
According to the National Weather Service in Austin-San Antonio, overnight lows will stay mild in the low to mid-40s under mostly clear skies, but a strong warming trend begins immediately. Highs will jump into the 90s by Friday and peak between 95°F and 99°F from Saturday into Sunday across Austin, San Antonio, and surrounding communities.
Cities including New Braunfels, San Marcos, and Georgetown will see similar heat, while Del Rio and Eagle Pass could push the upper 90s. With no rainfall expected and light winds in place, dry conditions will allow temperatures to climb quickly each afternoon.
The extended stretch of heat increases the risk of dehydration and heat-related illness, especially during peak hours between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Roadways such as I-35 and Loop 1604 will see elevated pavement temperatures, and energy demand may rise as cooling use increases.
Residents should stay hydrated, wear light clothing, and limit strenuous outdoor activity during peak heat. This warming trend will hold through the weekend with no rain in sight, and additional heat advisories may be issued if temperatures trend closer to 100°F.
