Corpus Christi, Texas – Hot, dry air and gusty winds are creating fire-prone conditions across South Texas today, with temperatures pushing near 97°F and wind gusts reaching up to 35 mph by midafternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi, elevated fire weather conditions will persist through Friday evening as southeast winds between 15 and 25 mph combine with dry fuels across the Coastal Bend. Inland areas including Cotulla, Tilden, Freer, and Laredo are seeing the highest heat, while Corpus Christi and Rockport remain slightly cooler but still breezy.

Along Gulf-facing beaches, a low rip current risk is in place, but officials warn that even low risk can still pose danger to swimmers, especially near jetties and piers.

Conditions begin to shift early Saturday as a weak cold front moves through, dropping highs into the upper 80s with a 20 percent chance of rain. Winds turn lighter and temperatures dip into the upper 50s and 60s overnight.

Drivers and residents are urged to avoid activities that could spark fires and secure loose outdoor items due to gusty winds. Fire risk will ease slightly this weekend, but warm temperatures return early next week.
