Corpus Christi, TX – Heavy rain, flash flooding, and severe thunderstorms are forecast to impact South Texas through early Friday, prompting widespread alerts from state and federal weather agencies.

According to the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi, a Flash Flood Watch remains in effect for all of South Texas through noon Friday, with rainfall totals expected to range from 3 to 10 inches, depending on the region. The highest accumulations are expected along the coast, where totals could reach up to 10 inches, increasing the threat of flash flooding in low-lying areas, creeks, and roadways.

A slow-moving storm system pulling in Gulf moisture is expected to bring multiple rounds of thunderstorms, some of which may produce very heavy rainfall, damaging winds, and isolated tornadoes. The Storm Prediction Center has placed most of South Texas under a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) for severe weather through 3 a.m. Friday, with a 15% chance for damaging winds or hail and a 2% tornado risk.

Due to months of dry conditions, the hardened soil increases runoff, heightening flood risk. Residents in Corpus Christi, Laredo, Victoria, and surrounding areas are urged to monitor local alerts and avoid driving through flooded roads.
