Corpus Christi, Texas – South Texas beachgoers can expect mostly sunny skies and warm surf today, but extreme UV levels and choppy waves could pose risks for swimmers and sunbathers alike.

According to the National Weather Service, highs will reach the upper 80s along the coast, with southeast winds blowing between 10 and 15 mph. While the risk of rip currents remains low, wave heights around 3 feet may still create dangerous swimming conditions near piers and jetties. Water temperatures are also in the upper 80s, making conditions inviting but potentially deceptive.

The UV Index is rated “Extreme” for Monday, meaning skin damage can occur in minutes without proper sun protection. Visitors are urged to apply high-SPF sunscreen frequently, wear protective clothing, and take breaks in shaded areas. Swimmers should avoid fighting any currents and instead swim parallel to shore if caught in a rip.

High tides arrived early this morning at Bob Hall Pier (5:55 a.m.) and Port Aransas (5:49 a.m.), with water levels expected to recede steadily through midday.

More updates are expected Tuesday, especially if wind speeds or surf heights increase.
