LUBBOCK, Texas – Afternoon highs are climbing back into the 90s, and residents across Lubbock and the South Plains should prepare for a hot, dry start to the week. While no hazardous weather is expected Monday night, low thunderstorm chances return by Tuesday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, temperatures will rise into the lower 90s both Tuesday and Wednesday, with mostly sunny skies dominating much of the week. Storm chances remain low, but forecasters caution isolated showers could develop late Tuesday into Tuesday evening across the Rolling Plains. Motorists traveling on U.S. Highway 84 and U.S. 87 may encounter brief, localized downpours during peak evening travel.

South winds will hold steady around 10 mph through midweek, keeping humidity levels relatively manageable despite the heat. Sunshine will remain the dominant theme through Thursday, but conditions may shift by the weekend as scattered showers and thunderstorms return to the region.

Daily life will not be disrupted for most, but residents should stay weather-aware, especially if outdoor events are planned Tuesday afternoon. Keeping hydrated and limiting prolonged sun exposure during peak heat remains essential.

The NWS advises residents to keep an eye on radar updates Tuesday and have alternate routes in mind if evening storms affect local travel corridors.

Hazardous weather outlooks note additional storm activity is possible into the weekend. Residents should anticipate more detailed advisories later this week.
