Lafayette, LA – A Tornado Watch remains in effect for much of south and central Louisiana through 6 a.m. Sunday, as a line of severe storms continues to move eastward across the state.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Lake Charles, the watch — designated as Watch 632 — covers 25 parishes, including Lafayette, Baton Rouge, Iberia, Vermilion, St. Mary, and Acadia. Residents in these areas are advised to remain weather-aware overnight as conditions are favorable for tornadoes, damaging winds, and hail.
The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) reports that the watch includes major cities such as Lafayette, Opelousas, Crowley, New Iberia, Morgan City, and Abbeville. Additional coverage extends north to Rapides and Avoyelles Parishes and east toward Ascension and Livingston.
Forecasters urge residents to have multiple ways to receive warnings, especially while asleep, as storms are expected to persist into the early morning hours. Emergency managers recommend moving to an interior room on the lowest floor if a warning is issued.
More severe weather may continue into Sunday morning, with the potential for localized flooding and power outages in affected areas.
