Grand Rapids, MI – A band of lake effect snow is bringing hazardous conditions to parts of Michigan, with South Haven and Kalamazoo seeing the heaviest impact this morning. Snow-covered roads and poor visibility are expected to create travel challenges, particularly along I-196 and surrounding highways.

According to the National Weather Service, the snow began early Tuesday and is forecasted to continue through midweek. As of 3:39 a.m., radar shows intense snow bands extending inland from the lakeshore to the west side of Kalamazoo. Drivers are urged to slow down, keep headlights on, and allow extra travel time.

The broader forecast indicates continued snow showers through Wednesday, with new accumulations of up to 2 inches possible. Highs will reach the mid-30s on Wednesday, but gusty winds up to 30 mph will make travel more challenging, particularly in open areas.

By Thursday, snow showers are expected to taper off, leaving behind cloudy skies and colder temperatures with highs near 31°F. Friday and Saturday may bring another round of light snow showers, with slightly warmer highs in the mid-30s.

Residents should prepare for variable conditions, including icy spots and reduced visibility during peak travel times. For updates, visit the National Weather Service website or local media outlets.
