Miami, Florida – Dangerous heat will grip South Florida on Wednesday afternoon, with metro Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties facing extreme risk levels that could endanger anyone without proper hydration or cooling.

According to the National Weather Service in Miami, the heat risk will peak between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Wednesday, with “major to extreme” categories forecast for densely populated east coast areas. While much of inland South Florida will experience moderate heat levels, urban centers along the coast are expected to see the highest threat.

Residents in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach are urged to stay indoors during the hottest hours, use air conditioning, and avoid strenuous outdoor activity between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. The NWS warns that the heat may be “dangerous to very dangerous” for anyone without adequate cooling or hydration, especially vulnerable populations like the elderly or young children.

Heat safety tips include drinking water before feeling thirsty, staying in shaded or air-conditioned areas, and checking on neighbors. This marks the first major heat event of the season for the region.

Extreme heat alerts remain in effect through Wednesday evening, with additional advisories possible if conditions worsen.
