Miami, Florida – Dangerous heat will grip South Florida again Sunday, with heat index values soaring to 107 degrees in Miami and West Palm Beach and 109 in Immokalee. Major health risks are expected for anyone exposed to the heat for extended periods, especially from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., when a Heat Advisory remains in effect.
According to the National Weather Service, the entire region will experience peak heat index values over 105 degrees, making Sunday one of the most oppressive days of the summer so far. Rain chances remain moderate, but scattered storms and showers are most likely near the Lake Okeechobee region—Palmdale, Clewiston, and Immokalee—where rain chances approach 50%. For Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach, the risk of a passing storm holds near 31%.
Residents are urged to stay indoors during peak afternoon hours, use air conditioning, and hydrate before feeling thirsty. Limit outdoor activities, especially for children, seniors, and pets. With fans and open windows providing little relief, cooling centers and public spaces may be necessary for some.
The heat risk is expected to persist into early next week, with new advisories possible if conditions do not improve.
