Miami, FL – The National Weather Service in Miami reports that coastal areas along the east coast of South Florida will continue to see higher-than-normal tides this weekend, leading to minor tidal flooding in some locations.
Flooding is most likely within 1.5 to 2 hours of high tide, particularly in low-lying areas of Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties.
This round of elevated tides, often referred to as “King Tides,” occurs when the sun and moon’s gravitational pull align, causing the highest tides of the year. While flooding impacts are generally minor, they can result in saltwater covering streets and coastal walkways, especially in neighborhoods with poor drainage.
Residents are urged to avoid driving through saltwater flooding, as it can damage vehicles and corrode infrastructure.
The higher tides are expected to continue through at least Sunday evening before gradually subsiding.
