Miami, Fla. – South Florida residents will face dangerous heat Wednesday as temperatures combined with high humidity could make it feel as hot as 108 degrees by midday. The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for Miami-Dade and Broward counties, in effect from 11 a.m. through 6 p.m.
According to the NWS in Miami, the advisory includes inland and coastal areas from Miami to Fort Lauderdale, including Hialeah, Hollywood, Pembroke Pines, and Kendall. Afternoon conditions are expected to be oppressive, with heat and humidity pushing outdoor workers and vulnerable residents at higher risk of heat-related illnesses.
Health officials urge residents to drink water consistently, avoid strenuous activity outdoors, and check on seniors, children, and pets. OSHA guidance recommends frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned spaces for those working outside.
Cooling centers and shaded public spaces are expected to see increased use, especially in dense metro areas like Downtown Miami and Fort Lauderdale. Heat stroke is a medical emergency, and officials stress calling 911 immediately if symptoms arise.
The heat advisory will remain in place through early evening, with more alerts possible if high temperatures persist into late week.
