Moore Haven, Florida – Residents across inland South Florida have less than three hours before temperatures plunge to near 30 degrees, threatening crops, exposed pipes, and anyone outdoors without protection.
According to the National Weather Service in Miami, a Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect for Glades, Hendry, and Inland Collier counties until 9 a.m. Monday, with wind chills dipping to 32 degrees. A Freeze Warning then takes effect from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. Tuesday, when actual air temperatures could fall as low as 30 degrees. A second Cold Weather Advisory runs during that same window, with wind chills dropping to 24 degrees.
Communities including Clewiston, Moore Haven, Immokalee, Golden Gate, Felda, Muse, and Buckhead Ridge sit squarely in the warning area. Agricultural zones near Lakeport, Palmdale, and Sunniland face the highest crop risk, especially for winter vegetables and citrus. Unprotected outdoor plumbing in rural areas could freeze before sunrise Tuesday.
Emergency managers urge residents to wrap exposed pipes, allow faucets to drip slowly, and bring pets indoors. Portable heaters should be used safely, and generators or grills must never operate inside homes. Anyone without adequate heat can call 211 for shelter assistance.
Temperatures rebound after 9 a.m. Tuesday, but additional advisories remain possible if clear skies persist into midweek.
