Miami, Florida – Marine and beach conditions are rapidly deteriorating across South Florida tonight as a strong cold front moves through the region, prompting a Gale Warning and elevated coastal hazards.

According to the National Weather Service in Miami, a Gale Warning remains in effect tonight through early Tuesday for both Atlantic and Gulf waters. Sustained winds of 20 to 30 knots, with gusts up to 40 knots, are expected to create dangerous marine conditions.

Seas are forecast to build to 7 to 11 feet in Atlantic waters and 6 to 9 feet in the Gulf, creating a high risk for capsizing or vessel damage. Mariners are urged to remain in port, seek safe harbor, or secure vessels until conditions improve.

In addition to marine hazards, a high risk of rip currents is developing across all Atlantic Coast beaches, including Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties, continuing into Tuesday. Beachgoers are advised to stay out of the water due to life-threatening surf conditions.

The NWS warns that strong winds may also reduce visibility over the water and contribute to rough, hazardous seas for small and large vessels alike. A Small Craft Advisory is also in effect for surrounding waters.

These conditions pose heightened risks for commercial operators, recreational boaters, anglers, and early-morning workers along the coast.

Officials recommend closely monitoring weather updates and delaying marine activities until warnings expire and seas subside.
