Miami, FL – Drivers across interior portions of South Florida are being urged to use caution early Friday as areas of fog develop, with some locations seeing dangerously low visibility, according to the National Weather Service in Miami.

Forecasters say fog is forming mainly across interior South Florida, including areas such as Alligator Alley and Tamiami Trail, during the early morning hours. There is an elevated chance (30–50%) that some of this fog will become dense, reducing visibility to one-quarter mile or less.

The fog threat is expected to be most significant through around 8 a.m., potentially impacting the morning commute. Reduced visibility may make driving hazardous, particularly on rural highways, interior roadways, and areas near wetlands where fog can thicken quickly.

According to the National Weather Service, fog conditions may vary sharply over short distances, meaning drivers could encounter sudden drops in visibility with little warning. These conditions increase the risk of accidents, especially at higher speeds.

Motorists are advised to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and allow extra stopping distance when traveling through fog. Drivers should also be alert for stopped or slow-moving vehicles ahead.

As temperatures warm later this morning, fog is expected to gradually lift, leading to improved visibility and safer travel conditions.

Residents are encouraged to stay tuned to local weather updates and allow extra travel time if commuting through interior areas early today.
