Inland areas of South Florida are under a Cold Weather Advisory as unusually cold overnight conditions are expected late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Miami, wind chills are forecast to drop as low as 29 degrees across Glades, Hendry, inland Palm Beach County, and inland Collier County. The advisory is in effect from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. EST Wednesday.

Communities included in the advisory area include Belle Glade, Clewiston, Moore Haven, Wellington, Royal Palm Beach, Immokalee, Felda, Buckhead Ridge, Lakeport, and Golden Gate, among others. While air temperatures may remain just above freezing, persistent winds will make it feel significantly colder, especially during the early morning hours.

The National Weather Service warns that these conditions could damage cold-sensitive vegetation, particularly in agricultural areas and rural inland communities. Residents without adequate cold-weather clothing or shelter may also feel increased discomfort during the coldest part of the night.

Residents are encouraged to dress in layers, including hats and gloves, and take steps to protect sensitive plants. Outdoor activities should be limited during the coldest hours if possible.

Temperatures are expected to rebound later Wednesday morning after sunrise, but residents should continue to monitor local forecasts for any additional cold weather alerts.
