Miami, Florida – A Cold Weather Advisory is in effect from midnight Sunday night through 9 AM EST Monday across parts of interior and southwest Florida, as unseasonably cold air pushes into the region overnight.
According to the National Weather Service in Miami, wind chills are expected to drop into the upper 20s to lower 30s, particularly during the early morning hours. While air temperatures will remain above freezing, the combination of cool temperatures and light winds may pose health risks with extended outdoor exposure.
The advisory includes Inland Palm Beach County, Glades County, Hendry County, and both coastal and inland Collier County. Communities affected include Belle Glade, Clewiston, Moore Haven, Wellington, The Acreage, Immokalee, Naples, Marco Island, Golden Gate, Felda, and Muse, among others.
The National Weather Service cautions that prolonged exposure to these wind chills could lead to hypothermia, especially for people without adequate cold-weather clothing. Increased risk is noted for older adults, young children, outdoor workers, and individuals without reliable heating.
Residents are encouraged to limit time outdoors overnight, dress in warm layers including hats and gloves, and ensure pets are kept indoors whenever possible. Officials also recommend checking on older family members, friends, and neighbors, and using portable heaters safely. Grills and generators should never be used indoors.
Conditions are expected to improve after mid-morning Monday as temperatures gradually rise.
