Aberdeen, SD – Residents across northern South Dakota are facing dangerous wind conditions tonight, with gusts expected to reach up to 60 miles per hour before tapering off early Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service in Aberdeen.
The High Wind Warning remains in effect for Corson and Dewey Counties, including the cities of Isabel and McIntosh, until 9 p.m. MDT Monday, followed by a Wind Advisory through 6 a.m. Tuesday.
According to the NWS, northwest winds of 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph are likely through the evening, decreasing slightly overnight to sustained winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts around 50 mph.
Forecasters warn that the strong winds could move loose debris, damage property, and cause scattered power outages. Travel may be hazardous, particularly for high-profile vehicles on open highways.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, such as patio furniture or trash bins, and to use caution when driving in exposed areas.
The National Weather Service advises that conditions should improve by Tuesday morning, but lingering gusts could still make for challenging early travel across the region.
