Sioux Falls, S.D. – Drivers in Sioux Falls could see wet roads and stronger winds as thunderstorms threaten parts of South Dakota this weekend.

According to the National Weather Service, a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms will develop Friday between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., with highs near 86 degrees. Winds will increase from the south at 10 to 15 mph, with gusts reaching 20 mph, making travel difficult for high-profile vehicles on I-29 and I-90.

Saturday looks mostly sunny and hot, with highs near 89, but conditions turn unsettled by Sunday. A 20% chance of storms may start in the afternoon, with higher chances building into Sunday night. By then, a 40% likelihood of showers and thunderstorms could bring locally heavy rain and stronger gusts up to 25 mph.

Officials urge residents to monitor alerts and prepare for quick changes in weather, especially for outdoor weekend events. If storms develop, avoid flooded roadways and secure loose outdoor items that could blow in gusty winds.

Storm chances linger into Tuesday before cooler, calmer weather returns midweek.
