South Dakota Weather Warning: Severe Thunderstorms Expected This Weekend

Sioux Falls, SD – South Dakota is gearing up for a stormy weekend as scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to hit the region on Saturday afternoon and evening.

According to the US National Weather Service Sioux Falls, isolated storms primarily south of I-90, from Chamberlain to Worthington, will pose a marginal risk of becoming severe. These storms may produce hail up to the size of quarters and damaging wind gusts.

The National Weather Service has issued a level 1 out of 5 risk for severe weather and a level 1 out of 4 risk for excessive rainfall on Saturday, potentially continuing into Saturday night. Most areas are predicted to receive a quarter to a half-inch of rain, but isolated storms could lead to locally heavy rainfall and possible flash flooding.

Current weather conditions in Sioux Falls are cloudy with a temperature of 72°F. The forecast predicts partly cloudy conditions by 8 PM tonight. Saturday will see a 45% chance of rain with temperatures ranging from 57°F to 78°F. Sunday’s weather is expected to be partly cloudy with temperatures between 58°F and 78°F.

Looking ahead, Monday through Wednesday will feature clear and sunny skies with temperatures gradually rising from 58°F to 80°F. The latter part of the week will maintain sunny conditions, with highs reaching into the low 80s by Friday and Saturday.
