Sioux Falls, SD – Another round of subzero wind chills is set to grip South Dakota tonight, but a major warmup is on the way.

The National Weather Service warns that wind chills will range between -15 and -25 degrees through early Friday, making frostbite a risk within minutes. Residents should bundle up, limit outdoor exposure, and check on vulnerable individuals. However, relief is coming soon as temperatures begin to rise over the weekend.

Friday will remain chilly, with highs reaching only the mid-20s. By Saturday, sunshine will help push temperatures into the upper 30s, with a mild southwest wind. Sunday continues the warming trend, reaching the mid-40s. By Monday and Tuesday, South Dakota could see temperatures in the low 50s—more than 20 degrees above seasonal averages.

The extended forecast suggests mostly sunny skies and dry conditions through early next week, but rain chances return Tuesday night into Wednesday. The drastic shift from bitter cold to springlike warmth is a welcome change, but residents should still take precautions against tonight’s dangerously low wind chills.

Stay informed and dress appropriately for the cold tonight, but get ready for a much warmer start to next week.
