Sioux Falls, SD – South Dakota is bracing for a series of thunderstorms over the next few days. The first round of showers and thunderstorms will move through overnight into Monday morning, impacting western and central regions of the state. While the strongest storms are expected to stay west of Sioux Falls, there’s a chance that some may drift east, reaching the area as early as Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, a brief lull in activity will occur Monday between mid-morning and afternoon, allowing temperatures to soar into the 70s and 80s. However, by afternoon, a cold front will trigger another round of showers and thunderstorms. These storms are expected to rapidly intensify, producing severe conditions including heavy rain, wind gusts, and possibly tornadoes. The region east of I-29 is considered the highest-risk area for severe weather.

For Monday, expect highs between 75°F and 85°F with a low near 31°F by nightfall. As temperatures stabilize throughout the week, more mild conditions are forecast, with highs in the 60s and 70s by Tuesday through Thursday.

Stay alert, especially Monday afternoon, as the severe weather could develop quickly, with potential for over two inches of rain and widespread storm damage.
