South Dakota – Residents across South Dakota can expect a shift in weather this week, with conditions moving from mild to potentially stormy and cool. The warm start to the week will gradually cool as chances for rain increase on Tuesday night. Those in eastern South Dakota should prepare for potentially strong storms overnight into Wednesday, with gusty winds adding to the conditions.
According to the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, rainfall from Tuesday night through Wednesday could range from a few hundredths of an inch to a quarter-inch, with locally heavier rainfall in some areas. Drivers, especially along major routes like I-90, should be cautious of reduced visibility and slick roads during this period.
Temperatures on Tuesday are expected to vary across the state, with highs between 64–72°F in the west and 72–82°F in the east. As the rain arrives and cold air moves in, Wednesday will see a significant temperature drop, with highs ranging from 47–60°F. Wednesday brings scattered showers, with rain chances estimated between 50–80%, especially in eastern regions.
By Thursday, South Dakotans can look forward to cooler but sunny weather, with temperatures from 46–52°F across much of the state. This marks a clear transition into fall, providing drier conditions that will last into the weekend.
