Fargo, N.D. – A surge of unseasonable warmth is set to spread across the Dakotas, bringing a springlike shift and smoother travel conditions during the busy spring break period.
According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, North Dakota and South Dakota will experience temperatures running 30 to 50 percent above normal from March 24 through March 30, while precipitation trends remain near normal but limited in overall impact. This pattern supports extended dry stretches with only isolated precipitation chances.
Across Fargo, Bismarck, Sioux Falls, and Rapid City, daytime highs are expected to reach the 50s to low 60s, with mornings in the 30s and low 40s. Major corridors including I-94, I-29, and I-90 are expected to remain mostly dry, supporting steady travel across the region.
Drivers should remain aware of patchy morning fog and occasional damp spots in low-lying areas, but widespread hazards are not expected. The warmer temperatures will help maintain clear road conditions across much of the Northern Plains.
For baseball fans across the region, including those following Midwest teams, the opening stretch of the season will feel more comfortable than typical late March conditions, with lighter layers likely sufficient.
This warm pattern is expected to hold through late March, with only minor changes possible heading into early April.
