Sioux Falls, SD – A shift in weather is expected for South Dakota as showers and a few storms move eastward this morning, primarily affecting southeastern parts of the state and southwestern Minnesota. After a break during the afternoon, isolated severe storms are anticipated this evening, with the National Weather Service (NWS) issuing a Level 1 of 5 risk for severe weather.

According to the NWS in Sioux Falls, these storms may bring gusty winds and heavy rainfall, particularly during the late evening hours. Residents planning outdoor activities should stay alert to changing weather conditions.

Temperatures will also take a noticeable dip, marking the arrival of early fall-like weather. Highs today are expected to range from 76°F to 84°F, but cooler conditions will settle in later this week. By Thursday, high temperatures will drop to the low 70s, with overnight lows falling into the upper 40s. This trend continues into the weekend, with highs hovering around the mid-70s and lows in the upper 40s to low 50s.

The extended forecast indicates a steady pattern of mild weather, making it feel more like fall across the region. As the week progresses, skies are expected to clear, providing relief from the storms, but the cooler temperatures will persist into the next week.
