Some storms may become severe, producing hail up to 2 inches in diameter and wind gusts near 70 mph. The strongest cells could also produce isolated tornadoes, especially in areas along and south of Interstate 90. Flash flooding is possible in urban or low-lying areas.
Residents in Sioux Falls, Brookings, and Vermillion should charge devices, secure outdoor items, and stay alert for warnings. Spotter activation is expected between 3 and 10 p.m. tonight to monitor conditions. Drivers are urged to avoid travel during severe weather windows, particularly along I-29 and I-90 corridors.
As storms move out overnight, drier weather returns briefly before another chance of rain Wednesday. By Juneteenth, high temperatures will spike into the 90s, with heat indices nearing 100°F in some areas through the weekend.
