Sioux Falls, South Dakota – Drivers across eastern South Dakota should brace for patchy fog early Sunday morning, with limited visibility likely along US Highway 14 west of the Missouri River.
According to the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, fog could drop visibility to under two miles through mid-morning Sunday, particularly in higher elevation zones. Motorists are urged to allow extra travel time and use headlights when driving through affected areas.
The rest of Sunday will bring clearing skies and mild conditions, with a high near 68°F and light east winds. By Memorial Day on Monday, another round of scattered showers is expected after 1 p.m. across Minnehaha County and surrounding areas. Highs will hover near 67°F with southeast winds between 5 to 10 mph.
Tuesday and Wednesday look to be a mix of partly sunny skies and lingering 30% chances of afternoon showers, with temperatures climbing into the mid-60s and low 70s.
The biggest weather shift arrives Thursday and Friday as South Dakota warms up. Thursday’s high reaches 74°F with partly cloudy skies, and by Friday, highs could hit 76°F — the warmest so far this season — signaling the unofficial start of summer.
No hazardous weather is expected beyond Sunday morning’s fog. However, updates could follow if precipitation chances increase or visibility worsens.
Stay weather-aware and check local alerts, especially if traveling early Sunday.
