Sioux Falls, S.D. – Drivers in Sioux Falls should prepare for reduced visibility Thursday morning as patchy fog spreads across the region before clearing later in the day. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to build this evening, bringing a wet start to the weekend for eastern South Dakota.

According to the National Weather Service, storms may begin after 5 p.m. Thursday, with the greatest chances overnight and into early Friday. South winds near 10 mph will shift northwest Friday, with highs holding around 70. Intermittent thunder remains possible through late Friday night, particularly across Minnehaha County and surrounding areas.

Travelers along I-29 and Highway 42 could face slick conditions during heavier downpours, especially in the overnight hours. The agency advises drivers to slow down and allow extra stopping distance. Outdoor events Friday evening may also be impacted by scattered storms and brief lightning.

Conditions improve Saturday with partly sunny skies and highs in the mid-70s. Sunday looks clear and warmer near 79 before another round of showers moves in late Monday.

Residents should monitor updates, as additional advisories could be issued if storm activity strengthens Friday night.
