SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Snowflakes swirl under dim streetlights this morning as a fast-moving early winter system brushes across the Sioux Falls region, coating roads and fields in white. The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls has issued a Winter Weather Advisory through noon, warning of slippery travel and brief bursts of heavier snow.

An early-season wave of moisture is spreading across southeast South Dakota, northwest Iowa, and southwest Minnesota, with general snow totals of 1 to 3 inches—locally higher between Sioux Falls and Sioux City. Visibility could briefly drop below a mile in heavier snow bands before tapering toward midday. Residents are urged to slow down, allow extra braking distance, and give plows plenty of space as crews clear bridges and rural stretches along I-29 and I-90.

Behind the system, arctic air dives south. Winds will stiffen from the northwest late today and continue through Sunday, pushing wind chills into the single digits by early Monday morning. That means bitter mornings ahead, crisp blue skies by day, and a stark reminder that winter is moving in early this November.

By Veterans Day, sunshine returns with milder highs in the low 50s, but the respite will be short-lived—long-range models hint at another cold push by late next week. With Thanksgiving travel season nearing, residents should keep an eye on shifting patterns that could bring another round of snow to the northern Plains before midmonth.
