Rapid City, South Dakota – Blistering heat will scorch the Rapid City area Friday with a high near 103°F and gusty winds up to 35 mph. The combination of intense heat and dry southwest winds may elevate fire danger and create visibility issues along I-90 and U.S. Route 16, especially during afternoon hours.

According to the National Weather Service, southwest winds will strengthen through midday, peaking at 15–25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph by 3 p.m. Residents should avoid extended outdoor activity, drink plenty of water, and secure loose items in exposed areas.

Saturday continues the triple-digit trend with a forecast high of 100°F. Winds shift slightly north, but gusts could still reach 30 mph. The intense heat will persist until clouds and cooler air arrive Sunday, when the high dips to 78°F and a 30% chance of showers develops by late afternoon.

The wetter pattern continues Monday and Tuesday, with a 40–50% chance of storms and highs around 71°F. Some storms may bring brief heavy rain and gusty winds, especially Tuesday afternoon, when the atmosphere becomes more unstable.

Locals should plan around heat-related risks Friday and Saturday, then prepare for changing conditions Sunday through midweek.
