Sioux Falls, South Dakota – Scattered thunderstorms could bring strong wind gusts and possible severe weather to parts of South Dakota on Thursday, particularly along and south of I-90.

According to the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, warm and dry conditions will persist through Wednesday, with highs in the 70s and gusts up to 25 mph. But by Thursday, showers and storms are expected to develop, with the strongest cells likely near the Nebraska and Iowa borders.

Thursday’s storms could produce gusts up to 30 mph and pose a risk to travelers on I-90 and nearby areas. While not all storms will be severe, the NWS warns that a few could intensify rapidly. Fire danger also remains elevated on Wednesday due to dry conditions and sun.

From Friday through Sunday, residents can expect a dip in temperatures into the 50s and low 60s, along with more clouds and occasional sprinkles. Another storm system is being monitored for late Sunday into Monday, which could bring moderate rainfall to the region.

Stay weather-aware through the end of the weekβ€”stronger alerts may be issued if Thursday’s storms intensify.
