Sioux Falls, SD – Light snow is expected to blanket the region Thursday morning, bringing slippery roads and subzero wind chills. Accumulations are forecast to stay under one inch, but temperatures will plummet to the single digits by evening.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), Sioux Falls will see highs between 8°F and 18°F today, with wind chills ranging from 0°F to -10°F. Tonight, temperatures will drop to lows near zero, with wind chills potentially falling as low as -20°F in some areas. Residents are advised to dress warmly and avoid prolonged outdoor exposure.

Looking ahead, Friday offers slightly warmer conditions with highs nearing 12°F under mostly clear skies. However, the calm weather will give way to a storm system Friday night, bringing freezing rain and snow to the region. NWS forecasts a 70% chance of precipitation, with icy roads and minor accumulations likely.

Saturday remains cloudy, with freezing rain transitioning to sleet or snow before tapering off by the afternoon. Temperatures will reach a high near 31°F. Sunday offers a brief reprieve, with partly sunny skies and a high of 37°F, before more snow returns Monday.

Travelers along I-29 and surrounding routes should monitor conditions closely, particularly during the Friday night storm. Local authorities urge drivers to prepare for icy patches and limited visibility.
