Sioux Falls, SD – Travelers across South Dakota are urged to exercise caution today as a dense fog advisory remains in effect until noon. Reduced visibility and freezing fog are creating hazardous driving conditions, particularly along Highway 81 and Interstate 29.

According to the National Weather Service, visibility may drop below a quarter mile in some areas, complicating both local and long-distance travel. Temperatures are hovering near freezing, leading to slick roads, especially on untreated surfaces. Drivers are advised to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and allow extra time for commutes.

Today’s high will reach 33°F, with freezing fog lingering through the morning before giving way to cloudy skies. Tonight, more freezing fog is likely to develop, especially between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., with lows around 29°F.

Thursday will bring cloudy skies and highs near 39°F, with widespread fog persisting into the morning hours. Freezing drizzle is possible in isolated areas, and travelers should prepare for slippery conditions during the morning commute.

By Friday, the region will see a slight chance of rain in the afternoon, with highs near 43°F. Overnight rain showers may linger into early Saturday morning before partly sunny skies and highs in the mid-40s return for the weekend.

Travelers should monitor local weather updates and road conditions, as changing temperatures and precipitation may impact post-Christmas plans.
