McIntosh, SD – An Ice Storm Warning remains in effect for Corson County through 5 p.m. Thursday, as freezing rain and sleet create dangerously slick roads and raise the risk of power outages across north-central South Dakota.

According to the National Weather Service in Aberdeen, up to one inch of snow and a quarter inch of ice accumulation are expected. The combination is forecast to make roads, bridges, and overpasses “slick and hazardous,” with travel conditions described as “nearly impossible.”

Forecasters warn that heavy ice could weigh down power lines and tree limbs, leading to widespread and potentially long-lasting power outages across the region. Both the Thursday morning and evening commutes are likely to be affected as freezing rain continues into the day.

Officials are urging residents to avoid travel if possible and to prepare for extended power interruptions. Drivers who must be on the road are advised to carry extra food, water, and a flashlight in case of emergencies.
