Sioux Falls, SD – South Dakota is gearing up for an intense heat wave this weekend, with temperatures expected to soar into the 90s. The National Weather Service has issued a warning as heat indices are forecasted to reach between 95 and 105 degrees Fahrenheit across the region.

Saturday is set to be particularly hot, with widespread high temperatures ranging from the upper 80s to mid-90s. Heat index values are expected to climb to between 90 and 100 degrees, creating sweltering conditions. As dew points rise into the upper 60s to mid-70s, the heat and humidity will combine to make it feel even hotter.

Sunday will be the most oppressive day, with temperatures pushing into the upper 90s. Heat index values are anticipated to be the highest of the weekend, ranging from 100 to 105 degrees, particularly south of I-90 and in the James River Valley. Residents are advised to take precautions, such as staying hydrated, wearing light clothing, and limiting outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
