Pierre, SD – Residents across much of South Dakota should prepare for chilly conditions tonight as the National Weather Service has issued multiple Frost Advisories covering central, northern, and southern parts of the state.
According to the National Weather Service offices in Rapid City and Aberdeen, frost is expected to develop between midnight and 1 a.m. CDT Monday, lasting through 9 to 10 a.m. as temperatures dip to around 31–33 degrees.
The advisory includes counties such as Mellette, Todd, Tripp, McPherson, Brown, Walworth, Edmunds, Potter, Faulk, Spink, Stanley, Sully, Hughes, Hyde, Hand, Jones, Lyman, and Buffalo—impacting cities from Pierre and Aberdeen to Winner and Rosebud.
Forecasters warn that sensitive outdoor plants and crops could be damaged or killed if left uncovered. Residents are urged to bring potted plants indoors or cover vegetation to prevent frost damage.
With clear skies and light winds expected overnight, temperatures will quickly drop near freezing before sunrise Monday, marking one of the first widespread frost events of the fall season across South Dakota.
