Sioux Falls, SD – Drivers across parts of South Dakota are being advised to use extra caution this morning as patchy fog reduces visibility along several major roadways.

According to the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, fog has developed in low-lying areas and near rivers, creating travel concerns for early commuters on Thursday, September 25. Live traffic cameras from the South Dakota Department of Transportation show varying visibility conditions across the state, including along Interstate 29 near North Sioux City, Interstate 90 near Mitchell, and Highway 34 east of Forestburg.

Officials warn that visibility can change rapidly in these conditions. “Be prepared for rapidly changing visibility when driving,” the Weather Service stated in its early morning update.

While the fog is not widespread, it may pose hazards for drivers traveling through rural stretches and highways near rivers and valleys. Motorists are encouraged to slow down, keep headlights on, and leave extra space between vehicles when traveling through foggy areas.

Conditions are expected to improve later in the morning as temperatures rise and fog begins to lift. Until then, drivers across southeastern and central South Dakota should remain alert for sudden visibility changes.
